Blog Post #4

The article was about how the media “downplays the real threats” in the Middle East when it comes to the Israeli-Arab conflict.  The article was more pro-Israeli than pro-Palestinian.  It states that Israel is actually trying to make peace and that news sources are not getting enough different sources to state a position on the issues.  There are also other threats involved in the issue that the media doesn’t express enough.  Palestinians are not necessarily the most anti-terrorist group of people.  They are teamed up with a lot of the Arab terrorist and their countries like Iran.  Iranian, Palestinian, and other terrorist have weapons-caches, and bases in areas like the Gaza Strip and West Bank.  This is where many attacks on Israel are made from.  If these terrorist are not stopped than the terrorist will not only kill Israelis but may threaten the rest of the world.  There isn’t really a lot of information missing in this article since it makes statements from both sides of the Israeli- Arab conflict.  The one thing that it is missing is the details of the occupation of the territories where the Palestine.  The article doesn’t mention much about the level of oppression on the Palestinians that pro- Palestinian articles show.

Blog #3: Sunni or Shiite

It is extremely important to know the difference between a Sunni and Shiite.  We need to be able to predict what other people around us are going to do if there are issues.  We are fighting in the Muslim world in the Middle East.  We need to know our enemy and our friends.  It is unacceptable for anyone to not know one or two basic differences.  The biggest thing that everybody should know is that we are mainly fighting the Shiites.  The Shiites are more extreme and have some differences with the Sunnis even though they are both branches of the Muslim religion.  If we do not know the ways of the Shiites we may not know when they are most likely to strike.  If we know when they are most likely about to strike so we can increase security.  Knowing their nature and way of life we can also track down terrorist in the Middle East and know what region they may be hiding in.  It is also important for officials to know them extremely well in case there was some kind of negotiations or talk between them and the religious groups of Muslims.  Especially the United States government should know the difference between them because one day there may be a Muslim civil war, and everyone knows the United States will have to get involved and save someone.  We would need to know who to side with and save.  It is important for United States citizens to know the differences basically so we know what our government is doing.
